  2. SYNCRO EXPRESS,the backupsystem for all Atari ST computers ?

  4. In germany the firm 'Eurosystems' sells the syncro express.You're 
  5. able  to  get it in two different kinds.As an update-version  for 
  6. your A-COPY ST or as your first order.The price for the update is 
  7. 59 marks and the complet price is 129 marks.
  8. You  get  the SYNCRO BACKUP in a simple  styroporpackage  with  a 
  9. manual  (  as  a twosided german copy ) and  the  disk  with  the 
  10. refiner  software  for  backups or to format a  disk  (  runs  in 
  11. monochrome and colour,this time in english ).
  12. If  you  want you can also get the latest version  of  A-COPY  ST 
  13. (version 1.2p).The modul must be put into the centronics-port and 
  14. with the other end of the wire ( only 10 cm ,much to short ) into 
  15. the  output of diskdrive A.  Then we've got to connect our second 
  16. drive with last output of the backup modul.  I ,using a mega ST , 
  17. have got to lengthen the wire !
  18. After the installation one has got to start the contained program 
  19. on the disk ('EXPRESS.PRG').  The copying starts after  selecting 
  20. 'auto','single'   or  'double'  !   'Auto'  says  the   automatic 
  21. recognition  of single- or doublesided disks.We can also  put  in 
  22. the  start-  and  endtrack of the disk.The  'ESC'-key  stops  the 
  23. copying directly !
  24. Now  let's try the quality of our latest copy-system.First  we'll 
  25. have  a  copy of the latest shoot'em up  'XENON  II'.First  disk, 
  26. second disk and then I was able to shoot with the new masterbackup 
  27. as  good  as with the original.O.K ,great ,but we  want  to  know 
  28. more!
  29. After  this first positiv test ,we tried to copy  ten  originals. 
  30. Only three doesn't really want to work ! I had some problems with 
  31. the game 'Starglider II' safed in the 'dual-inline-format'  which 
  32. runs on a ST and on an A.... ( you know ! ) .
  33. You  should  also  use  quality disks for  your  backups  because 
  34. sometimes  the  backup  has got no right  copied  protection  and 
  35. so  the copy doesn't want to work.This means:use the right  disks 
  36. for your 'backups' ! 
  37. The time for a onesided copy is about 27 seconds and for a double
  38. sided copy you need about 45 seconds.They get this speed by using 
  39. both  drives at once.Both drives will be started and  stopped  at 
  40. the  same time.A special chip is able to do so and this  is  also 
  41. the  only  technical  part  within  this  modul.The  firm   C.C.T 
  42. developed  this  new  chip.C.C.T.  stands  for  'COAST  to  COAST 
  43. TECHNOLOGIES'.The construction was very simple and well done.
  44. The  disk also contains a special format program which allows  to 
  45. format  a disk with several different sector and  tracknumbers.To 
  46. format  a doublesided disk with 81 track and 11 sectors you  need 
  47. about  1  minute and 40 very long seconds.Afterwards  you'll  get 
  48. 9011220 Bytes as a result.
  49. Let's turn back into the normal ST usermode. If you think you can 
  50. use the second drive you're realy wrong.We'll  have to change all
  51. the outputs into their normal position ! I'd like a short program
  52. as an ACC or within the Autoorganizer,to use the second drive.This 
  53. new system has got only two limitations:first that you've got  to 
  54. have  two diskdrives and secondly that you can't use  the  second 
  55. drive  within  the normal ST mode.We won't be able  to  copy  all 
  56. originals because the softwarefirms will be one step before us !!
